Long Time, No Blog

So, we haven't updated this in a long time.  Sorry.  We're going to be moving and we are feeling far away from our family already, so Danny & I both will try to be better at updating this.  Then maybe other people will read it.  If not, at least we can say that we tried?  I feel bad for not including people that we love with what's been going on in our lives lately.  I'm sorry if that includes you!  We really don't mean to exclude anybody, we just can hardly keep track ourselves.  :)  Since November we've had a crazy time.  My health hasn't exactly been great and I've had to have 2 surgeries.  In Nov. I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy *including ovaries*.  The surgeon found that at some point the blood supply to those organs had been severed.  Therefore, I was suffering from early menopause.  Yay me.  Turns out that the surgery really helped!  I haven't had the abdominal pain that had haunted us for so long!  Instead, my wound didn't close.  I know, I know, typical Nicole.  Well, I ended up having home health care again, didn't get an infection that time.  Instead I hemorrhaged on Thanksgiving and had to have my abdominal incision packed for the next several weeks.  It healed, reopened and is now healed again.  No infection, no bleeding it's all good!
Then in February my eardrum ruptured.  In turn I had a mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty.  That means the ENT drilled the infection out of the mastoid bone (the one directly behind your ear) and grafted a piece of facia (in my temple) to create a new eardrum.  While in the OR they found an unusual tumor called an adenoma.  I know, I'm just and unusual kinda girl, huh?  It's totally benign so the only concern is it's placement.  It should be no problem in the future.  I was healing fine and even planned Amber's 3rd birthday when low and behold, I got an infection!  *After the birthday party!*  Turns out big, bad, nasty MRSA would be our new roommate.  I'm sure everyone (except me) remembers our last big battle with infection, we won, barely.  Well this time MRSA invited Cellulitis and Strep over and we had a great party.  I was in the hospital for awhile, have had 2 PICC lines and been in and out of the ER, but the infection is finally gone.  Lots of blessings, prayers and people helped me get back to health and I hope you all know how grateful I am.  Danny too, he likes me enough to keep me around a bit longer.  So now that we all know about me, let's get on to the fun stuff!
James is getting older, and his height shows it!  He's almost as tall as me and definitely has my demeanor and attitude.  I'd like to think that's a good thing, but I'm smarter then that.  ;)  He is such a smart kid!  He's really interested in Science and Social Studies right now and of course, loves to ride his skateboard.  His bike was stolen from the apartment complex, and as sad as that is for him, hopefully it will help teach him to take better care of his things.  He is enjoying Cub Scouts and is close to getting his Wolf badge.  He is such a great help around the house and he's been very strong as we've gone through these hard times.  He and Amber have a very close and special relationship and he's an amazing big brother.  Amber is 3 now and totally potty trained!  Yay!  She's got the ABC's and 123's down and now we're working on recognizing them and writing them down.
Side-note:  When my godparents were in town recently we went to have dinner with them.  Normally when we bless the food, we all fold our hands and bow our heads individually.  However, my godparents hold hands so we all followed suit.  Amber's very innocent question was :

"Are we gonna play ring-around-da-rosy?"  It was hilarious! She's so sweet and so honest, but I think that's true of all kids her age.

Anyway, on to the man of the house.  Kal-El the cat is doing great!  Ha ha.

Danny is, as always, the support and rock of our family.  He's the glue.  Thank goodness for that!  He has been so amazing in taking care of all of us.  He has nurtured me back to health, potty trained Amber and taught James multiplication, just to name a few.  He works so so hard for our family and then goes to school and does it all again.  He is enjoying school, but eager to start working and applying what he knows.  He will start and internship in May while attending class for half of the day.  After that it's just the externship and he's done!  For the externship, he will have to work in an office, most likely in the specialty he chooses, for 8 hours a day and then complete a case study.  He will present that to the class and then it's GRADUATION!  YAY!  We're really grateful that he's  been giving so many opportunities with school, but to take advantage of them, we are moving!
Colorado Springs to be exact.  We're hoping to be down there by the start of James' school year, but it might be a week or two into it before we're settled.  I'll write lots more on that soon, but now it's bed time!
